The Bus Shelter Dorset is a registered charity set up to relieve the need of people sleeping rough in Dorset by providing shelter, warmth, food and support.

We originally converted a double decker bus, donated to the charity, into a shelter for local rough sleepers with beds for 14 men and 3 women. The bus operated 7 days a week and was run mainly by volunteers in Weymouth, Dorset.

During Covid we had to move away from communal living and worked very closely with Dorset Council to continue to provide high support to our guests throughout this period by moving to 3 different locations across Dorset.  Through the Next Step Accommodation Programme Dorset Council secured funding to develop our new site at the park and ride car park in Weymouth, which consists of 12 self contained units of accommodation, communal lounge, dining area and kitchen, laundry facilities.

The Bus Shelter offers rough sleepers somewhere safe to stay with 24 hour high support which enables our guests to access local services, integrate back into the community and make massive changes to their lives for however long the guest requires our support.
